FTL and LTL Freight Shipping and Receiving in the Inland Empire

Full truckload, LTL, and inbound receiving handled at the same Montclair dock that stores and fulfills your inventory. We negotiate rates with carriers, schedule pickups, and count every inbound load against your paperwork.

Overview

Freight Shipping & Receiving at The Papez Company

The Papez Company is a family-owned and operated warehouse in Montclair, CA, in the Inland Empire, approximately 50 miles from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. We coordinate FTL and LTL shipping, inbound receiving, and carrier rate negotiation for importers, manufacturers, distributors, and e-commerce brands that store inventory with us.

Trucks and containers arrive at our dock, get unloaded and counted, and go into storage or straight to fulfillment. When product needs to leave, we book the truck, build the shipment, and load it. Rates are negotiated with carriers per shipment, pickups are scheduled for standard or expedited service, and one person is your contact from the rate quote to the loaded trailer. You are not chasing a separate broker to find out when the truck is coming.

The warehouse sits on the Interstate 10 corridor on the western edge of the Inland Empire, bordering Los Angeles County. Containers drayed from the port complex can be delivered directly to our dock, and outbound trucks head straight for the freeways that serve Los Angeles, Orange County, and the Southwest. For everything else that runs out of the building, see third-party logistics in the Inland Empire.

What's included

What our freight shipping and receiving service includes

  • Full truckload (FTL) shipping

For pallet counts that fill a trailer, we negotiate a truckload rate, schedule the pickup, and load the trailer at our dock. One shipment, one bill of lading, one carrier from origin to destination.

  • Less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping

LTL freight out of the Inland Empire is quoted by weight, class, and destination, then scheduled for pickup. We palletize, wrap, label, and stage the freight so it is ready when the carrier backs in.

  • Inbound receiving

Trucks and containers are unloaded at our dock, including containers drayed from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Nothing is put away until the count matches the paperwork or the difference has been reported to you.

  • Outbound freight

Orders that ship as pallets instead of parcels are built, wrapped, and labeled here. Stored inventory moves from the rack to the trailer without a transfer to a second building. See warehousing.

  • Carrier rate negotiation

We negotiate rates with carriers based on lane, weight, and how often you ship. You see the quote before the truck is booked, and we handle the booking.

  • Standard and expedited scheduling

Standard freight is planned ahead around your ship dates. When a shipment has to move sooner, we coordinate an expedited pickup and stage the freight ahead of the driver's arrival.

Receiving standards

Every inbound load is counted before it is put away

Receiving is where inventory problems start or get caught. When a truck or container arrives at our dock, the load is unloaded and the cartons and pallets are counted against the bill of lading and packing list before anything goes to a storage location. A printable container receiving checklist lists everything to send ahead.

Shortages, overages, and visible damage are documented and reported to you at receiving, not discovered weeks later during a pick. Once the count is confirmed, product is assigned a location and added to your on-hand inventory so it is available for orders or outbound freight. See inventory management.

  • Carton and pallet counts checked against your paperwork
  • Shortages, overages, and damage reported to you before put-away
  • Verified quantities added to your inventory record

One dock, one contact

Warehousing and freight coordination from one Southern California dock

Splitting storage and freight between two vendors adds a handoff to every shipment. The warehouse stages the pallets, a broker books the truck, and when the driver arrives late or the pallet count does not match, you are the one on the phone with both of them.

Here the crew that pulled and wrapped your pallets is the same crew that booked the carrier and will load the trailer. One point of contact covers the inventory, the pickup, and the paperwork. If the count changes or the ship date moves, one call adjusts both the order and the freight.

Who it's for

Who uses our freight shipping and receiving

  • Importers bringing containers through the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach who need a dock to receive them
  • Manufacturers and distributors shipping palletized B2B orders by LTL or full truckload
  • E-commerce brands that store inventory here and ship pallets to retailers alongside parcel orders through [pick and pack](/services/pick-pack)
  • Amazon and Walmart sellers whose prepped inventory ships as pallets to Amazon fulfillment centers or Walmart's fulfillment network
  • Businesses tired of coordinating a warehouse and a separate freight broker for every shipment
  • Companies that need occasional expedited freight without setting up a new vendor each time

Why The Papez Company

Why businesses ship freight through The Papez Company

  • One point of contact

The same people who receive, store, and pick your product also book your freight. Questions about a shipment go to someone who has seen the pallets.

  • Negotiated carrier rates

Rates are worked out per shipment by lane and weight, and nothing gets booked until you have approved the quote.

  • Inbound and outbound at one dock

Containers from the ports come in, truckloads and LTL go out, and your inventory stays under one roof in between.

  • Standard or expedited

Routine freight is booked around your ship dates. When a deadline moves up, the expedited pickup is arranged through the same contact, not a new vendor.

FAQ

Freight Shipping & Receiving questions, answered

Who actually moves the freight?

Carriers do. The Papez Company coordinates the shipment: we negotiate rates with carriers, schedule the pickup for standard or expedited service, stage and load the freight at our dock in Montclair, and have the paperwork ready when the driver arrives. The carrier handles the line haul.

Can you receive containers drayed from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach?

Yes. Our dock is approximately 50 miles from the port complex. Containers delivered here are unloaded, checked against the bill of lading, and either put into storage or built into outbound shipments. Let us know when the container is expected and we will set a receiving time at our dock.

What is the difference between LTL and full truckload, and which should I use?

LTL (less-than-truckload) shares trailer space with other shippers' freight and is priced by weight, class, and pallet count, which suits shipments of a few pallets. Full truckload (FTL) dedicates the trailer to your freight, which makes sense when the pallets fill it or the load should not be handled at terminals along the way. We will recommend one and quote it.

What happens if the inbound count does not match the packing list?

We report it before anything is put away. The difference is written up against the bill of lading and sent to you, so you can take it up with the supplier or carrier while the paperwork is fresh. Only the count we verified goes into your inventory record.

Do you coordinate freight to Amazon fulfillment centers and Walmart's fulfillment network?

Yes. Inventory prepped for FBA or WFS can ship from our dock as LTL or truckload freight to Amazon fulfillment centers or Walmart's fulfillment network. See Amazon and Walmart FBA forwarding for how prep and forwarding work together.

Where is your freight dock located?

Our dock is at 4060 Mission Blvd., Montclair, CA 91763, in the Inland Empire on the Interstate 10 corridor, bordering Los Angeles County, approximately 50 miles from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Inbound and outbound freight both move through this one location. Call 909-229-4482 or send a quote request with what you ship and where it goes.
