Warehousing in the Inland Empire

The Inland Empire is where Southern California holds its inventory. The Papez Company holds it at a family-owned warehouse in Montclair, at the western edge of the region on the Interstate 10 corridor, bordering Los Angeles County.

The Papez Company is a family-owned and operated warehouse in Montclair, CA, in the Inland Empire, approximately 50 miles from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. We receive, store, pick, pack, and ship business inventory for e-commerce brands, importers, manufacturers, and distributors that need warehousing in the Inland Empire without leasing a building or hiring staff.

San Bernardino and Riverside counties make up the Inland Empire, the region directly east of Los Angeles County. It is a distribution hub for Southern California: the freeways that carry freight from the port complex east to the rest of the Southwest run through here, and the region's distribution centers are built around them.

Many of those buildings are very large and leased by very large companies. A business that needs a few pallets stored, a container unloaded, or a full fulfillment program run for it does not fit that scale. Our warehouse is built for that gap.

Our dock at 4060 Mission Blvd. in Montclair sits in the same region as the major distribution centers, with the same freeway access and port proximity, at a size where your account is handled by people who know it. The rest of this page covers what that geography means for how your product moves in and out.

Why inland

Inventory held at the hub, not the edge

The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are where imported product enters Southern California, but they sit at the coastal edge of the freeway system. The Inland Empire is where the long-haul corridors out of Southern California come together. Interstate 10 runs east and west through Montclair, Interstate 15 runs north and south just east of us through Ontario, State Route 60 parallels the 10 through Riverside County, and the 210 follows the foothills to the north.

Holding inventory here means a container comes in from the port on one drayage leg, and every outbound shipment starts on a corridor already pointed at its destination: Los Angeles and Orange County west on the 10 and the 60, San Diego south on the 15, Arizona and the rest of the Southwest east on the 10. Product warehoused at the coast has to cross the Los Angeles basin before it heads anywhere east.

Size and attention

A family-owned Inland Empire warehouse, not a distribution center

The Inland Empire's reputation was built on very large buildings serving national retailers and logistics companies. That footprint is wrong for a growing brand, an importer with a few containers a year, or a manufacturer that needs finished goods staged near Los Angeles without leasing space of its own.

The Papez Company gives those businesses the same location at a workable size. Pallets are stored in a secure, FDA registered facility, and stored product moves straight into pick and pack, e-commerce fulfillment, or freight shipping without a transfer to another site. Store a couple of pallets with us or hand us the whole fulfillment program: either way, the people answering your questions are the ones handling your inventory.

FAQ

Inland Empire warehousing questions

Where in the Inland Empire is your warehouse?

The Papez Company is at 4060 Mission Blvd., Montclair, CA 91763, in San Bernardino County at the western edge of the Inland Empire. Montclair borders Los Angeles County and sits on the Interstate 10 corridor next to Ontario, Upland, Pomona, and Chino, approximately 50 miles from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Call 909-229-4482 with questions about the location.

Why store inventory in the Inland Empire instead of closer to the ports?

The ports are where product enters, not where it is headed. The corridors to San Diego, Arizona, and the rest of the Southwest converge in the Inland Empire, so freight held here starts east without crossing the Los Angeles basin, and Los Angeles and Orange County are a direct run west on the 10 or the 60.

How far is Montclair from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach?

Approximately 50 miles. Containers cleared at either port can be drayed directly to our dock, unloaded, counted, and put into storage or forwarded on. See our warehousing service for how receiving works.

Do I need to be located in the Inland Empire to warehouse with you?

No. Businesses based elsewhere in Southern California, out of state, or overseas use our Inland Empire warehouse to position inventory near the ports and the Los Angeles market. Local companies that want a warehouse near Ontario, Upland, Chino, or Pomona get the same location plus a dock close to home.

How is The Papez Company different from the large distribution centers in the region?

Scale and attention. The big buildings serve tenants shipping at national volume. We are a family-owned and operated warehouse, and the people who receive, store, and ship your product are the people you talk to when you have a question. Request a quote with your volume and we will tell you how we would handle it.

Need a warehouse in the Inland Empire?

Tell us what you ship, where it comes from, and where it goes. We will come back with a plan for storing and moving it from Montclair.
